My Thoughts about Teaching and Learning
Teaching is far from being a regular or routine task. If we only think about the fingerprint
a teacher leaves on humanity, then we will regard teaching as more of an innovative and
constantly evolving mission that educators may, or can we say? “should” grow everyday.
One key route to transforming teaching methodologies from a traditional model to one
that emulates innovation, is through constant learning and correlating scientific models
and various theoretical approaches, that have proven value, with our teaching style.
Teaching is the transmission of knowledge with the aim of fulfilling learning purposes.
Learning means obtaining knowledge through practice or instruction. Whereas teaching
is accomplished by the teacher, learning is achieved by the students. In fact, the teacher’s
skillfulness and potentiality in teaching is viewed according to the students’ learning
outcomes.
Successful teachers are expected to have their own teaching philosophies which form the
base of the methods and goals of their teaching practices. A teaching philosophy sums up
a teacher’s unique beliefs, standards, methods, objectives and role in the learning process.
Personally I view teaching as a passion and pursuing it as a career was due to my desire
to produce a positive impact in my society and the life of kids.
As a teacher my role is to motivate and promote critical thinking of my students. My role
is to inspire my students and hold them to the highest expectations. My students are
independent human beings who should not be trained how to learn, they should be
motivated to experiment and discover. We should promote a safe learning environment
for our students where they feel free to share their ideas and opinions.
As a conclusion, I hope to be a teacher who can leave a remarkable mark and positive
impression in her students’ lives. To be remembered as the caring teacher, the guide,
facilitator whose aim was not just imparting knowledge but shaping a well-prepared
responsible human who is fully ready to play an effective role in the society.
